amaAmbush Marimba Band
amaAmbush was established in 2002 by musician, composer and educator, Ross Johnson. Ross has a natural gift for performing African music and began sharing his knowledge, ability and love for the African marimba through teaching and performing in the late 1990s. The demand for Ross’ marimba tuition and high energy performances grew rapidly and in 2002 he established the organisation amaAmbush.
Since then, Ross and his team in amaAmbush have been providing high energy professional marimba band performances to thousands of clients. Ross is a graduate of the Music College at the University of Cape Town and has used his academic training to create the amaAmbush sound which is truly African and also pleasing to the Western ear. Ross has also lectured and presented papers on the African marimba at the University of Southern California, and at the International Society of Music Educators World Conferences in Malaysia, Italy and China. He is a subject matter expert in this field.
amaAmbush has performed for Sir Richard Branson, Jamie Oliver, Reverend Desmond Tutu, Queen Silvia of Sweden, King Wilem-Alexander of Holland, at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday and most recently for President Barack Obama.
Larry Soffer always dreamed of becoming an international star. Inspired by the artistry, charisma and showmanship of David Copperfield, Larry at 13 enrolled at the College of Magic in Cape Town. In a bizarre twist of fate, Larry discovered that a numerological ordering of the letters of his name mean ‘The Magician’ – motivating him to succeed. Such were his talents that world famous Las Vegas Magicians, Siegfried and Roy awarded him the SARMOTI Grant. After graduation, Larry took interest in Mentalism – acts of mind-reading, metal bending and telekinesis – soon, he began showcasing his skills on television and radio, making spoons and forks bend across these platforms, effecting people in their homes, including fixing broken watches, making light bulbs burst, making TV’s switch on. In 2006, he was invited to the world-renowned Magic Castle in Hollywood, the members of which are only the most prestigious magicians in the world. He became the youngest South African to ever perform there and the only to ever be awarded membership. Larry is an extremely popular live show performer, inspiring his audience to ‘Believe To See’ instead of ‘Seeing to Believe.’ In so doing, he truly opens their minds to new possibilities by believing in the impossible and thereby creating their own dreams.

Most recently they have performed at functions for top companies including amongst others Telkom, FNB, Nedbank, Tourvest, Sanlam, Woolworths, KFC, Spar, Absa, The Exporters Club, Wimpy and the Golden Arrow Bus Company. 3 Tons of Fun regularly perform at many prestigious events at the Arabella Sheraton Hotel (Kleinmond), Shimmy Beach Club, Val de Vie, The One & Only Hotel, The Castle of Good Hope, The Crystal Towers Hotel, The Lanzerac Hotel and they often travel to entertain clients at Sun City, Gold Reef City, Sabi Sabi and Phinda. 3 Tons of Fun are just as popular overseas where they carry the South African flag high and wow international audiences and expats alike. In the past few years they have travelled to Switzerland, Togo, Zambia, Ghana, Seychelles, Indonesia, Nigeria, Dubai, Vietnam, Thailand, London, Bahrain and Mauritius. Most recently they were honoured to be asked to perform at the Pendooring Awards, the Kirstenbosch Winter Season, the Hermanus Whale Festival and the Gariepfees in Kimberley. They enjoy giving back to charity and in the past year have performed pro bono for the Chris Burger Fund dinner (CTICC), the Christine Revell Children’s Home fundraiser (CTICC), the Cape Times Big Walk and the uThando Charity Event at the City Hall. In between flying around the country they schedule public shows so that their hometown fans have time to reunite with them and they can be seen at least twice a year at Café Roux, Noordhoek, The Caledon Hotel and The Bay Harbour Market in Hout Bay. In 2013 they released their debut album entitled ‘Larger than Life’ which has a collection of old favourites as well as three original songs.
From Caribbean parents, Didier was born in Paris where he lived most of his life. He became a professional dancer, teacher and Choreographer, but modelling changed his life when he started travelling across the globe. Shooting for magazines such as Men’s Health and GQ, or strutting his stuff on Fashion shows for Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier or Lanvin, opened him doors to new countries and new cultures. He took his passion for music to another level by being involved in the marketing of “Rhodes House”, a Cape Town nightclub named as one of the 10 Best nightclubs of the world by Amica Magazine.
DJ Didier is probably the most versatile DJ you will ever meet, his musical background comes from his father who was a Saxophone player. He grew up surrounded by soul and funky music, and discovered House music on his work as a dancer and choreographer for European artists. Mixing in Paris, London, Amsterdam, Johannesburg or Cape Town made him a respected and well followed DJ by his audience. Always surrounded by models and actors (that he calls his crew). DJ Didier knows how to make everyone feel at ease on the Dance floor.
Currently based in Cape Town he aspires to travel around the world still to share his passion for music. Earning residence at Fat Back Soul and a monthly residence at Aqua Lounge, he proved to all that he can easily mix for Corporate companies or private clients as much as for lounges and nightclubs.
DJ Clive Pringle
Clive Pringle studied classical and jazz music. Clive has performed successfully for mixed audiences, working mainly in popular genres including pop, rock, R&B and party hits, ranging from the 60’s to current chart hits from both sides of the Atlantic.
